As a part of Children’s Day or Bal Diwas celebrations in Punjab, the Department of Water Supply and Sanitation (DWSS) with the support of the Department of School Education organized various awareness activities including those pertaining to Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen (SBM-G) and the need to move towards ODF Plus villages.
As many as 186 secondary and senior secondary schools in 23 districts of Punjab participated in the activities that focused on personal hygiene, cleanliness of surroundings, the need to use toilets at all times, stopping the misuse of water, and proper management of greywater.
In solid waste management, students were informed about the importance of segregating waste into dry and wet waste at source; composting wet waste, and processing of dry waste.
Considerable focus was given to the cleaning of hands with soap and water before and after meals as well as after using the toilets.
A total of 62,228 students – 32537 boys and 29691 girls participated in various activities, learning in the process that hygiene and sanitation would contribute to the overall health and wellbeing of communities.
