UP’s Bhadohi conducts onsite training in SLWM

To ensure the effective implementation of solid and liquid waste management (SLWM) activities under SBM-G Phase II and the construction of quality assets, the district administration of Bhadohi in Uttar Pradesh conducted a 3-day onsite training for its officials from 7th to 9th November 2022 in Munsilatpur village of Bhadohi Block.

The capacity building of stakeholders under the leadership of District Magistrate, Mr. Gauranga Rathi is in keeping with the ongoing plan for the ‘Clean Village’ concept and implementation of SLWM activities in all 75 districts of UP.

The practical training involving classroom as well as onsite training dealt with technical aspects of various SLWM assets, provided under the guidance of the Resource agency, Primove, supported by UNICEF.  

A total of 66 participants comprising 11 Gram Pradhans, 11 Panchayat Secretaries, 5 ADO(P)s, 16 Masons from identified Gram Panchayats, 2 District Consultants, 7 Block Coordinators, and 14 Consulting Engineers attended the training.

For the purpose of the training, the district administration selected 17 revenue villages from14 Gram Panchayats having a population of more than 5000, to develop as Model villages. Towards this, detailed village-level Sanitation plans had been developed and presented at the State level.  Further, a credit limit was issued to the GPs for taking up SLWM activities in the selected villages.

Day one of the training consisted of discussions and sharing of information about the different technological options for Solid and Liquid Waste Management such as Community Compost pit, NADEP, Vermicompost, community Soak pit, leach pit, Magic pit, Silt catcher, filter chamber, Plastic bank, Resource Recovery Centre, etc.  Construction of various SLWM assets began in the presence of participants who were taught measures to sustain the initiatives.

On Day 2 of the training, participants observed the process of construction, gaps if any found, and rectified the problem then and there.

On Day 3, participants observed the construction of community soak pits, NADEP, Vermi Compost, and Magic pits and the working of a silt catcher on a drain.

During the training, CDO, Mr. Bhanu Pratap Singh visited the site and viewed the construction process. He encouraged the participants and appreciated the training process which will lead to quality construction of the SLWM assets. On the other hand, DPRO, Bhadohi, Mr. Rakesh Yadav explained that GP leaders who attended the training would start the work in their respective GPs immediately, ensuring sustainable assets.  He assured them that there would be regular monitoring and feedback by District Consultants and the GPs would be provided handholding support.
