Having ensured that all households and institutions have sanitation facilities including access to community sanitary complexes (CSC), and putting in place arrangements for effective management of solid and liquid waste, as many as 129 villages in Pune district of Maharashtra will declare themselves as ODF Plus this Independence Day.
According to Pune Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer, Shri Ayush Prasad, the 129 villages in 13 Talukas (Blocks) will pass resolutions to that effect during a special Gram Sabha organised on August 15, 2022.
As per Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen (SBM-G) Phase II guidelines, an ODF Plus village is one which sustains its ODF status, ensures solid and liquid waste management and is visually clean.
The ODF Plus activities were initiated using funds in convergence with SBM-G and MGNREGA during campaigns held earlier and the work has been completed satisfactorily. While solid waste is segregated at household level and collected, organic waste is converted into compost, and the dry waste including plastics is appropriately recycled/disposed. Waste water on the other hand is managed through individual and community soak pits and septic tanks.
Earlier in 2021-22, around 315 other villages of the district were declared ODF Plus. The district administration has set a target of March 2023 for the entire district to become ODF Plus.
Towards this, efforts are on to provide toilet facilities to families who do not have individual toilets and to institutions. Construction of toilets in all schools and Anganwadis and ensuring usage, and works pertaining to solid and liquid waste management, including construction of drains and other works for sewerage management are underway to make the villages clean.
The CEO-ZP has appealed to all villages to ensure that work gets completed as per schedule. The 129 villages that will be declared ODF Plus on August 15 are from the following blocks: Baramati (10 villages), Bhor (10), Daund (10), Haveli (10), Indapur (10), Junnar (12), Khed (14), Maval (10), Mulshi (10), Purandar (10), Shirur (15), Velhi (8).
