PM interacts with beneficiaries of public welfare schemes

Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi on May 31, 2022 interacted with beneficiaries of various public welfare schemes including the flagship Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen; and transferred the 11th installment of more than Rs.21,000 crores to more than 10 crore farmers, under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi.

Held in Shimla of Himachal Pradesh, the ‘Garib Kalyan Sammelan’ convention celebrated the schemes, that ensured ‘Ease of living’ for impoverished Indian households, initiated over the last 8 years. It was dedicated to the all-round development of the last person of the society. 

Speaking on the occasion, “During the last 8 years, several schemes have been initiated and benefits of those schemes have already reached crores of poor households.  These government schemes are achieving the goals efficiently.  But it does not end here, now is the time to achieve 100 per cent saturation,” the PM said.

“I repeat the resolve that I will do whatever I can, for the welfare of everyone, for the honour of every Indian, for the security of every Indian and for the prosperity of every Indian and a life of happiness and peace for everyone,” he added.

The entire nation participated in the convention through state and district headquarters, and Krishi Vigyan Kendras.   It was a part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav to commemorate 75 years of Indian Independence. 

On Swachh Bharat Mission, the PM praised the various accomplishments of the SBM-G.  Earlier, there was a sense of helplessness in practicing open defecation, but today after having built toilets in the houses, there is freedom to live with dignity, he said. 

Interacting with the beneficiary from Ladakh, Shri Tashi Tundup the Prime Minister talked about the arrival of tourists in Ladakh and his experience with the government schemes. The Prime Minister praised his services as an army man. Shri Tashi Tundup said that he did not face any problem in availing the benefits of schemes like PMAY, Toilets, Gas Connections, and farming-related benefits.

Smt Lalita Devi Ji from Bihar is a beneficiary of PMAY, Ujjwala, Swachh Bharat, and Jal Jeevan Mission. She informed the PM, how schemes led to her ease of living and dignified life. The Prime Minister said that with a house many things like education and marriage of the children will fall in place.

Under Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen, with the construction of 11.58 crores toilets, households in rural India have access to safe sanitation.  The focus in Phase II of the Mission is to sustain the ODF status and put in place measures to effectively manage solid and liquid waste to bring about visual cleanliness.  As for Jal Jeevan Mission, access to safe drinking water to 10.78 crore families has made their lives easier, safer and free from serious diseases.  Numerous other benefits were provided to beneficiaries under various other schemes.

The objective of the interaction with beneficiaries was to discuss how those left behind could be saturated via the Antyodaya approach; understand the ease of living brought by various beneficiary-oriented schemes; seek ideas for improvement of these schemes; explore possibilities of further convergence for the realisation of higher benefits; and discuss citizens’ aspirations @2047, when the nation completes 100 years of independence.

The PM interacted with beneficiaries from schemes implemented by the Ministries of Health and Family Welfare; Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare; Women and Child Development; Housing and Urban Affairs; Petroleum and Natural Gas; and the Departments of Food and Public Distribution; Drinking Water and Sanitation; and Financial Services.  The major schemes represented were:

  1. Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (Grameen and Urban)
  2. Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi
  3. Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana
  4. Poshan Abhiyan
  5. Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana

  8. Pradhan Mantri Svanidhi Scheme
  9. One Nation One Ration Card
  10. Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana

  13. Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana
