To celebrate World Toilet Day 2021, a community sanitary complex (CSC) was inaugurated in Hatnoor village of Kanand Block in Aurangabad District of Maharashtra on November 19, 2021.
The CSC was inaugurated jointly by Shri Nitin Patil (ex MLA and present Chairman of the Aurangabad District Cooperative Bank), Shri Kishor Pawar (ZP Member of Hatnoor circle), and Shri Arun Rasal (Regional coordinator, State Water and Sanitation Mission Maharashtra).
Built at a cost of 4.1 lakhs (Rs. 3.10 from SBM-G, Rs.1 lakh from people’s contribution and GP fund), the CSC that is situated on the banks of River Shivana is valued at Rs.15 lakhs, taking the cost of land into account. It has separate sections for men and women, each having 1 toilet seat and 3 urinals, complete with handwash facility and water connection.
The CSC is strategically located in the main market place of the village, close to the shopping complex, the primary health centre and the Zila Panchayat school. The area is frequented by a floating population, shopkeepers and customers who are bound to make use of the facility.
Operation and maintenance of the facility is the responsibility of the Gram Panchayat which has appointed a worker who cleans and maintains the facility and keeps the facility open from 6 AM until 8 PM. Currently, it can be used free of cost.
Other dignitaries present on the occasion were Sarpanch Ashabai Akolkar, Deputy Sarpanch Naeem Shaikh, Swachhata doot and social worker Kailas Akolkar, Panchayat Samiti Member Kishor Pawar, GP Member Vaidynath Kale, Gangaaba Mohite, ex Sarpanch Santosh Pawar, and ex Deputy Chairman S P Akolkar; District IEC coordinator Satish Aurangabadkar, District Water Quality Inspector Shivaji Ghuge, Kannad Block Coordinator Sandeep Chavhan and Nagesh Kiratkar.
The programme was organised by Village Development Officer Pravin Nalawade, of Hatnoor GP which is home to 1082 households and a population of 5418.
