A 100-day ‘Jagananna Swachh Sankalpam’ programme that aims to make all the villages green and clean was launched across the State of Andhra Pradesh recently. As a part of this and with a view to transform the entire Guntur district into a Swachh Guntur, the District Collector (DC) and Magistrate had directed all District and Mandal level officers to set up solid waste processing sheds in all Gram Panchayats (GPs) across the district.
‘Zero Waste Gram panchayat – Zero Waste Guntur District’ is the objective of the district campaign.
The DC recently inaugurated the vermi compost preparation centre as well as a plastic collection centre at Abburu village in Sattenapalli Mandal. He believes that such centres would accelerate the programme, leading to a Swachh Guntur.
Meanwhile, the MLA of Sattenapalli constituency, Mr. Ambati Rambabu decided that the way forward was for vermi compost preparation and plastic collection centres to be operational in every GP of his constituency. He organised an inauguration of the vermi compost preparation centre by MP of Narsaraopet Loksabha, Sri. Lavu Srikrishna Devarayalu.
As for the plastic collection centre, its purpose was to curb the use of plastic. The initiative is also intended to promote greenery in the villages. Individuals can visit the centre and exchange one kg of plastic wase for a plant or sapling.
Post inauguration of the facility, the DC and Magistrate planted saplings in the premises. Speaking to the gathering, he emphasized the need to plant more trees through an initiative called the Jaganana Pachathoranam.
