Collective vigilance protects village in Andhra Pradesh from Covid

Komatilanka, a village in Eluru Mandal of West Godavari District in Andhra Pradesh has not reported a single case of Covid-19 in the second wave so far.  The achievement is attributed to collective vigilance of the community and all people adhering to the covid safety protocols.

According to the newly elected Sarpanch, Mr. Tenali Yohanu, the distinction was achieved owing to the cooperation of Volunteers, GP staff, health staff and the public.

Tremendous focus was also given to awareness programmes relating to covid-19 appropriate behaviour such as social distancing, wearing of masks, hand hygiene, etc., that were conducted in the village with the help of volunteers and SHG members.

Given that the Sarpanch himself is a qualified health expert, he regularly monitors the situation in the village with a population of 1125 individuals.  On his agenda are regular review meetings with volunteers and staff during which he cautions them to be vigilant.

He affirms that efforts will continue to sustain the present ‘Zero Covid Cases Status’ in his village, by taking all possible precautions.
