The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Government of India has launched an innovative campaign to mobilize rural households to beautify their toilets. Participating in the campaign will not only make the toilet aesthetically pleasing, but also increase ownership, promote sustained use and instill a sense of pride among the owners.
Swachh Sundar Shauchalaya (translated beautify your toilet) Contest will be held from 1st to 31st January, 2019.
Toilet owners have the option to beautify their toilet by painting its walls, designing the same with local art and painting the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) logo, to spread the message of safe sanitation.
In the run up to the contest, districts have been abuzz, creating awareness to ensure that the maximum number of individual household toilets will be painted. Pictures of the best painted households toilets would be shared using the hashtag MyIzzatGhar.
As far as awards are concerned, households will be awarded on innovative paintings; best 5 photographs of painted toilets will be uploaded from each district; and districts will be awarded on maximum number of toilets painted.
